  • Who Am I?

Yo! My name is Robbie. Join me as I fumble through this blog thing and rattle on about games and stuff that I like!

I don’t feel like there are many gamers out there with my kind of tastes – at least it feels that way most of the time – so I’m starting this page in hopes of finding others out there, who like me, have strange kinda tastes.

This is going to be interesting.

So, if you’ve somehow found yourself here, then I hope you manage to dig A Certain Kind of Gamer.

E3 2018 Highlights & Games To Play While Waiting: CYBERPUNK 2077 // SONIC TEAM RACING // MONSTER BOY & THE CURSED KINGDOM + MORE

So, E3 2018 is done and dusted. I’ve been soaking in the information the last week, as I’m sure almost every one have done, too.

In all honestly, I haven’t been entirely floored with everything I’ve come across, because I tend to prefer smaller-scale, niche games over the AAA stuff, but of course, there are exceptions! I like my single-player stuff, racing games, and retro-styled experiences, and there were a few things this year that tickled my fancy.

A few games, though, I’m super-excited for. So excited, in fact, that I need games to fill the wait. And I’ll get to those in a bit. But before I do, here are some games coming up on the horizon that really got me pumped:

The Problem With APOCRYPH – When Is Early Access NOT Early Access?

April 28, 2018 · by akumajobelmont

When it’s hyped, sold and released as a full game.

I found the Alpha Demo of Apocryph really enjoyable. It wasn’t an amazing experience, but the core of something really, really fun was most definitely there. So much promise, so much potential, yada yada yada.

So it pains me to tell you that the full release of Apocryph is frozen in time – that same potential, the same promise – there’s still only that and not much more.

NEWS, PICK UPS + MORE: Out Run 2019 // FAST BEAT LOOP RACER GT Delayed + Pre-Purchase // Apocryph // Logitech G920 Wheel // Gamer Getaway

Things have been a little quieter this week, but there are reasons, I promise!

Early last week, I crossed a big-ticket, bucket-list item off my ‘want’ list – a Steering Wheel for my PC! I settled on the Logitech G920 Driving Force GT because game compatibility is great, and well, its pretty.

Real pretty!

To say I’ve been happy with my purchase is an understatement. This thing has changed my racing world.

AMID EVIL Preview – Yet ANOTHER Must-Have Retro Throwback FPS!

FIND AMID EVIL ON STEAM HERE! Releases 12th/13th March!

Hoooooo boy! This Retro FPS renaissance is something I just don’t want to ever stop!

Until recently, I honestly just thought the FPS genre just wasn’t for me anymore.

Gone were the days of level designs that kept you coming back for more. No more searching every nook and cranny in hopes of finding secret health and ammo caches. Single-player is dead… it’s multi-player or die now. And damned if I don’t miss having access to a bunch of cool weapons at once.

That’s how I used to feel, anyhow. Then 2017 happened. And with the likes of DUSK, Ion Maiden and now AMID EVIL, suddenly there are FPS games for gamers like me – like us – again.

Some people will tell you that you can’t look back to move forward.

Introduce them to AMID EVIL – it begs to differ.

RETRO GAMER LIFE: New SEGA Saturn and Mega Drive Pick Ups!

March 10, 2018 · by akumajobelmont

PicMonkey Image

Just a quick post today – I’ve been pretty busy with work the last few days, and I’ve been doing some volunteer work too, so I haven’t had much time to capture game-play, screenshots or anything else really cool like that.

But I have received a few bits and bobs in the mail. Fyeah… PICK UPS!

I’ve been really into the Saturn lately. I mean, I usually am, but am prone to phases where it’s all I play for weeks on end.

Hence the purchases.

I also got a killer new Mega Drive game to add to my (admittedly humble) collection of games for that system. Let’s get on with it, shall we?

Now Playing: APOCRYPH (PC) // GRAVEL (PC) // BLOODGDX (PC) // ACE OF SEAFOOD (SWITCH)

I’ve been playing a lot of games this past week. I’ve had family down from Sydney, so while my days have been fairly busy, my evenings have been pretty chill, with lots of games to while away the hours with.

On a more serious note, the site has been struggling when it comes to views lately, so if you enjoy my content at all, I’d really, really appreciate a share or two, maybe on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram – whatever! I really hope that what I’m doing is going down well with you lot – I know I cover some specific, niche stuff, but all the more reason to try to spread the word, right? I’m all over Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, so I’m giving it my absolute best shot!

Anyways, without further adieu, here’s some neat stuff I’m playing that you might just dig too!

ION MAIDEN – Classic FPS Action Has A Place In 2018

March 3, 2018 · by akumajobelmont

vlcsnap-2018-03-03-15h57m04s323

I fell off the First Person Shooter bandwagon looooong ago. Or at least I thought I had.

I grew up with the classics. Wolfenstein 3D, Blakestone, Zero Tolerance (yeah, it’s a classic to me), Exhumed/Powerslave, DOOM, Heretic, Hexen, Duke 3D, Half-Life and Quake changed my gaming world, and I followed the genre wherever it took me. PC or Console, it didn’t matter. Toward the tail-end of the Xbox 360 era though, the genre started losing its appeal for me. Online multi-player was the new focus, and the parts of the games I cared about (the not multi-player bits) were the exact parts of the game that seemed to receive the least amount of attention.

I’ve been playing a LOT of games lately. I’ve been on a pretty hard SEGA Saturn kick the last few weeks, with some pick-ups I’ll show you in future posts, but my Switch and PC have been getting a fair amount of gaming love too!

Here are 3 games I’m really loving at the moment.

5 GREAT Retro-Flavoured Games On STEAM For UNDER $5 USD!

February 14, 2018 · by akumajobelmont

Who doesn’t love some cheap games? They’re a nice way to pad out your library, sure, but a gamble they can definitely be – a cheap RRP isn’t usually synonymous with quality. Well, don’t fret, because I’m here to help! These 5 games I’m about to show you challenge that theory.

Here are 5 Games for the Retro Gamer you can find on Steam that are totally mint, as well as cheap!
