  • Who Am I?

Yo! My name is Robbie. Join me as I fumble through this blog thing and rattle on about games and stuff that I like!

I don’t feel like there are many gamers out there with my kind of tastes – at least it feels that way most of the time – so I’m starting this page in hopes of finding others out there, who like me, have strange kinda tastes.

This is going to be interesting.

So, if you’ve somehow found yourself here, then I hope you manage to dig A Certain Kind of Gamer.

IMPULSE PURCHASE – I Couldn’t Help Myself // GRAVEL Ice and Fire DLC

April 17, 2018 · by akumajobelmont

Where hath my integrity gone? I told you in the last post that I try to avoid EB Games on principal. Well, throw that out the window, because I bought a massive bucket-list item from them today. I couldn’t help it, honest! The price on the Logitech G920 was pretty damned good, and when I rang the store to see if they had it in stock, they were super nice, so eh, what the hell. But more on that soon.

All I know is I’m going to be playing a lot of rally games over the next couple of weeks.

Starting with…

I’m Still Here, And Working On A Couple Of Game Reviews!

March 29, 2018 · by akumajobelmont

Reviews Are Coming

I’m beavering away – I promise!

I’ve finished a couple of games recently, and while I work on the reviews, I thought I’d throw out this quick post to let you know I’m still doing stuff! I’m trying to find a way to format the reviews so that they are still reviews, but without an in-your-face cliché review scale. They’ll be graded, but in an ACKoG kind-of way.

RETRO GAMER LIFE: New SEGA Saturn and Mega Drive Pick Ups!

March 10, 2018 · by akumajobelmont

PicMonkey Image

Just a quick post today – I’ve been pretty busy with work the last few days, and I’ve been doing some volunteer work too, so I haven’t had much time to capture game-play, screenshots or anything else really cool like that.

But I have received a few bits and bobs in the mail. Fyeah… PICK UPS!

I’ve been really into the Saturn lately. I mean, I usually am, but am prone to phases where it’s all I play for weeks on end.

Hence the purchases.

I also got a killer new Mega Drive game to add to my (admittedly humble) collection of games for that system. Let’s get on with it, shall we?

Who doesn’t love some cheap games? They’re a nice way to pad out your library, sure, but a gamble they can definitely be – a cheap RRP isn’t usually synonymous with quality. Well, don’t fret, because I’m here to help! These 5 games I’m about to show you challenge that theory.

Here are 5 Games for the Retro Gamer you can find on Steam that are totally mint, as well as cheap!

PSYTRONIK SOFTWARE – STEEL RANGER

February 1, 2018 · by akumajobelmont

I’ll be taking a look at each of the brand-new Psytronik Software Commodore 64 games in time, but I’m starting here, with what is quite possibly my favourite game of 2018 so far – Steel Ranger.

Developed entirely by Lasse Öörni and published by Psytronik Software.

Get Steel Ranger HERE!!!

The Commodore 64 is one of those systems that I have always coveted from afar. Well, kinda. As a kid, a neighbour of mine had one, and I relished every chance I got to play it. I did have a VIC-20, and I loved that thing, but it mysteriously disappeared a few weeks before I got my first Mega Drive for Christmas…

I’m doing a bit of a smaller post today – I’ll be away for the weekend and I’d like to have a couple of posts ready to upload before I go!

First up, I want to say a big thank you to those over at Feedspot for placing A Certain Kind of Gamer at 61st Place in the Top 75 Retro Game Blogs!

I’ve only been doing this for about a month now, so it’s surprising that I’ve received recognition for my stuff so early in the piece. Pretty damned killer, I’ve gotta say!

Playstation 2 Trash – SHOVELWARE to AVOID. Or Not… OOOH MYSTERY!

January 30, 2018 · by akumajobelmont

Shovelware!

If your platform is selling gang-busters, then expect the shovelware to start flooding the system in no time at all! The Playstation 2 definitely did well – and there is a veritable RUBBISH TIP worth of the stuff on the system.

So, I found a box of PS2 games in my wardrobe the other day, and I was immediately drawn to the cheap cover art that some of the games exhibited. When did I buy all this trash? I cannot for the life of me remember.

So I dug out the old PS2 Slim, set-up my XRGB-Mini, and proceeded to make my way through them, game by game, taking video and snapping screenshots along the way.

And lucky you, yes you right there! You get to suffer through them with me!

Bring a sick bag!

8 GAMES To Play RIGHT NOW On The, Uh, PICO-8 Fantasy Console!

January 26, 2018 · by akumajobelmont

See what I did there? Of course you did.

Do you like 8-bit games? How about 8-bit computing? What if I threw ‘indie games’ in there as well? Did I mention that the PICO-8 library is FREE?

No?

I have now.

Some wise person once said “be the change you want to see.”

January 3, 2018 · by akumajobelmont

Cover Finished Edited

So here I am!

Sup’ all – my name is Robbie! I’m a Gamer of a certain vintage – 35 and proud of it! Sort of. Okay, it’s fine.

It’s all fine.

I’ll get straight to the point now, before I type a million words about myself.

Things I like (and funnily enough, things I’ll be covering) are as follows:
